During the August 25th, 2026, Council Meeting, Mayor Matt MacCoy honored members of the Seaford Volunteer Fire Department for their courage, teamwork, and heroic actions during a residential structure fire on Yorktowne Lane on March 21st, 2026.
Despite initial reports that all occupants were out of the home, firefighters conducted a primary search and located an unconscious female victim inside. Their training, quick actions, and teamwork were instrumental in safely removing the victim and ultimately saving her life.
The City proudly commends and recognizes Assistant Chief Jason Hudson, Captain Robert Sharp, Firefighter/EMT James Durr, and Firefighter Ty Matthews for their recommendation for the Lifesaving Medal and Firefighter/EMT Larry Whaley, Firefighter/EMT Lewis Donofrio, and Firefighter John Cartledge for their recommendation for a Unit Commendation Medal.
Their exceptional service and dedication to the safety of our community is forever appreciated by the Mayor, Council, and City.
