Community Gathers to Open Seaford's 1976 Time Capsule

The City of Seaford would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us on Tuesday, July 7th, 2026, for the opening of Seaford's 1976 Time Capsule.

Fifty years after it was sealed, community members gathered at the front steps of City Hall to witness the opening of a piece of Seaford's history. Some of the contents of the time capsule included booklets, newspapers, photographs, family letters, and more from Seaford in 1976. The evening quickly became a meaningful night to remember.

During the ceremony, Mayor Matt MacCoy announced that the city will be dedicating a new time capsule for future generations to enjoy in the Fall of 2026.

If you were unable to attend, the entire Time Capsule Opening Ceremony is available to watch on the City's YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/gCOVtW0Ehzo?si=_hNXHJk2SxyCtEYv

City staff are currently documenting each item that was included in the time capsule. Once the process is complete, the collection will be available on the City's website for the community to explore. We will announce when the page is live.

Thank you again to everyone who attended and helped make this event so memorable. We are grateful for the opportunity to honor Seaford's past while looking forward to its future.
