On March 10th, 2026, the Seaford City Council voted to close Jay's Nest Playground due to safety concerns. The City is moving forward with plans to demolish the existing structure and construct a new playground for the community.
Jay's Nest Playground has been a cherished space for many years, originally built with the support and involvement of local residents. As part of that effort, many families placed personalized signs and pickets throughout the playground, greatly contributing to its unique and meaningful character.
The City is committed to preserving these items. All personalized signs and pickets will be carefully removed, and residents who wish to retrieve theirs will have the opportunity to do so. Once available, individuals may contact the Seaford Department of Parks and Recreation at 302-629-6809 to schedule a pickup time.
During the reconstruction period, residents are encouraged to enjoy other local park facilities, including Soroptimist Park and Nutter Park.
Updates will be shared on the City's website and social media pages as they become available.
The City appreciates the community's understanding and continued support and looks forward to working together to create a new playground that will serve Seaford families for years to come.
